This workshop focused on examining relevant regional experiences and South-South exchange of successful tax practices, sharing information about donor activities and current developments at international level, and shaping operational approaches for development cooperation.
Participants discussed core areas of fighting tax evasion and inappropriate tax practices and made valuable contributions to the increasing discussion on taxations and development which currently takes place in the European Union (EU). Participants also recognized the importance of bringing together in a forum policy makers and experts from developing and industrialized countries as well as from international organizations who deal with tax matters in development cooperation.
After this governmental workshop and in order to foster dialogue and networking among all relevant actors, twenty delegates from civil society, scientific organizations and the private sector, who deal with tax matters in development cooperation, attended a one day meeting together with governmental participants on 27 January 2010.
