27–28 November 2012 – International seminar on “Challenges to collect property tax”, Jakarta, Indonesia

Initiated by the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta, supported by the ITC and AusAID, and organised by GIZ (Decentralisation as Contribution to Good Governance (DeCGG), the international workshop on property taxation took place in Jakarta on 27-28 November 2012.

22–23 November 2012 – Seminar on “Evasion and Income Tax in Latin America”, Montevideo, Uruguay

From 22–23 november, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN ECLAC) joined forces with the International Tax Compact (ITC), the Inter American Center for Tax Administrations (CIAT), the Internal Revenue Service of Uruguay (DGI) and the Center for Fiscal Studies (CEF) in order to realize the regional exchange seminar “Evasion and Income Tax in Latin America” in Montevideo.

23–24 August — Technical Workshop on Exchange of Information in the East African Community (EAC), Arusha

The EAC secretariat has invited representatives of the tax administrations in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda to discus from 23 – 24 August 2012 common procedures for an effective exchange of information. The workshop focused on the development of standardised templates for requests of information, spontaneous exchange of information as well as automatic exchange of information.

13–14 August — ITC Seminar on „Taxation and Economic Growth with Social Equity“, Santiago

From 13 to 14 August, the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in cooperation with the International Tax Compact (ITC), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will host the seminar „Taxation and Economic Growth with Social Equity“. The regional seminar will focus on the analysis and discussion of fiscal policies in Latin America and their distributional and social impacts.

30 July–3 August — ITC Seminar on Exchange of Information: Effective Processes and Peer Reviews, Accra

The OECD has conducted in cooperation with the Department for International Development (DFID), the International Tax Compact (ITC), the World Bank and the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) a seminar on exchange of information. The objective of the seminar was to provide participants an overview of the Global Forum and the international standards on tax transparency and exchange of information for tax purposes.

Tax administrations from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda and South Africa focused on the implementation of an effective exchange of information and the specific requirements of the Peer Review Process.

27 April — ITC Seminar “Tax and Development: Broadening the Tax Base”, Santiago

On Friday, April 27, ECLAC, the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the International Tax Compact (ITC) and The World Bank Group joined forces and co-hosted a seminar titled “TAX AND DEVELOPMENT: BROADENING THE TAX BASE.” The event brought together high-level tax administrators and government representatives from 32 countries and was held at ECLAC headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

Dealing with key issues for fiscal policy and tax administrations regarding the challenge of broadening the tax base in the region, the seminar focused on improving tax compliance through the use of third party information and IT-based information systems, challenges of SME taxation in Latin and Central America and key issues concerning donor coordination in the field of taxation and development.

8 February — 3rd ITC Core Group Meeting, Paris

On 8 February 2012, the 3rd Core Group Meeting of the International Tax Compact (ITC) was held in Paris in order to coordinate the ITC’s regional initiatives in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Within the meeting, representatives of the key actors in the field of development and taxation – including among others the United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB) and the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) – agreed that the ITC’s initiatives planned for 2012 will focus on tangible project activities on the ground, contributing to the creation of fairer and more equitable tax systems in developing countries.
