ATI REGIONAL FOLLOW-UP TECHNICAL MEETING ON TAX EXPENDITURES: ASIA

As a follow-up to the work of the Regional Workshop on Tax Expenditures in Asia that took place in Manila, Philippines, in March 2023, the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) is pleased to announce its upcoming follow-up technical meeting. The event will take place in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 7-9 May 2024.

The technical meeting aims to provide a unique opportunity for ATI member countries in Asia and other interested governments to exchange with regional partners and international experts on the estimation, reporting, and evaluation of tax expenditures (TEs). The event will provide participants with the opportunity to gain more detailed insights on the technical aspects of TE estimation, reporting, and evaluation, including knowledge about the application of tools and methods related to those issues. The meeting will also serve as a platform to discuss future collaborations in the field.

Background

The series of regional workshops and follow-up technical meetings on tax expenditures is organised by the ATI, jointly with the Council on Economic Policies (CEP) and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS). On this occasion, the Inland Revenue Department of Nepal will host the meeting and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as well as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have joined as institutional partners.

The joint initiative builds on the Global Tax Expenditures Database (GTED), a repository that helps to increase transparency on tax expenditures and sheds light on their critical role in tax systems around the globe.
