BOUGAINVILLE PROGRAMMING

A range of programs are supported under this investment, with the aim of helping the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) and PNG Government implement the Bougainville Peace Agreement. These programs are focused on governance, economic development (including private sector development), and peace building. A priority for governance is to build the capacity of the ABG, including helping establish the Bougainville Public Service, and improve public financial management, government communications and project implementation. In economic development, we are partnering with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research to examine economic opportunities in cocoa production, piloting measures to establish private sector partnerships, and providing support on taxation and revenue, and economic planning. Our assistance also supports peace and reconciliation activities, community grants, gender equality in education, primary school infrastructure, public diplomacy initiatives,
