COVID-19 – Challenges Faced by Tax Systems in the Wake of COVID-19

The Association of Tax Authorities of the Islamic Countries (ATAIC) and the Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will offer three virtual seminars (webinars), with a focus on how to address challenges faced by tax practitioners in the wake of COVID-19.

To support an inclusive recovery from the pandemic, tax policy and administration will continue to play an important role. How can tax systems help address the fiscal challenges post COVID-19? What tax measures can boost revenue mobilization in a way that is both inclusive and growth friendly? Tax administrations face challenges of reinvigorating operations to safeguard collection and compliance to provide the resources necessary to fund COVID-19 responses. While this is a pressing need, administrations also need to be mindful of the economic impact that COVID-19 has had on some businesses and individuals. Tax Administrations and taxpayers need to work together more than ever to support a healthy economy by keeping as many businesses in business as possible, while promoting compliance with the country’s tax laws.

The events will be held on March 9, March 10, and March 11, 2021 between 13:00 and 15:00 GMT using the Zoom Platform. They target primarily heads and senior staff of the Ministries of Finance and Tax Administrations.
