NTO WEBINAR: Emerging Technologies for Tax Administrations

The Network of Tax Organisations (NTO) will host a webinar on 26 July 2023 on the topic of trending applications of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) to improve the processes and services of tax administrations.

Progress in digital technologies and services constantly reshapes the world we live in, including the tax administration landscape. The rise of information and communications technologies (ICT) such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and blockchain technologies offers the possibility to modify tax system performance. This can alter the relationship between taxpayers and tax administrations, while obtaining significantly better fiscal results. At the same time, these technologies present new challenges and risks for tax administrators such as data protection, maintaining the rights of taxpayers, and staff adjustments.   

The webinar will bring together experts and country examples focusing on the risks, benefits, and challenges of ICT – with a specific focus on lessons learned in country case studies. It will feature presentations on salient areas of tax and digital technology including data analytics and AI, with a focus on their practical implementation for tax authorities from recent experiences.

The presentations will include an overview of new technologies applied to tax administration as well as practical cases on the use of new technologies from AEAT (Spanish Tax Administration Agency). How to leverage open-source intelligence (OSINT) to tackle tax non-compliance will be explained by the Chief Business Officer of IVIX, a data analytics provider for tax administrations.

The webinar will be enriched by a regional perspective from the Director of Technical Assistance and Technology of the Inter-American Centre of Tax Administrations (CIAT) as well as a Q&A session with an open discussion.
